Day Zero Project list

This is my list for the Day Zero Project mentioned in this post.  I’ll mark things off as they’re accomplished and share my experiences as I go.

Key: Goal, In Progress, Complete

For my health:

  1. Go to the doctor
  2. Go to the dentist
  3. Run (or maybe walk) a 5k
  4. Join a CSA for meat
  5. Join a CSA for veggies
  6. Eat gluten free for a week (0/7)
  7. Exercise daily for 30 days (0/30)

For my education:

  1. Pass the REG section of the CPA exam
  2. Pass the FAR section of the CPA exam
  3. Pass the BEC section of the CPA exam
  4. Pass the AUD section of the CPA exam
  5. Take a cooking class
  6. Enter something in the Fair competitions
  7. Take piano lessons
  8. Learn to use Andrew’s camera’s features
  9. Learn to use Photoshop
  10. Find the International Space Station
  11. Take a gun safety class
  12. Read a book I should have read in High School
  13. Learn 10 new things about North Carolina (0/10)
  14. Learn to use a sewing machine

Places to go:

  1. Travel to a US state I’ve never been to
  2. Go to Napa Valley/California Wine Country
  3. Go to five North Carolina wineries (0/5)
  4. Travel somewhere by train
  5. Go to the North Carolina Seafood Festival
  6. Hike part of the Appalachian Trail
  7. Go on a cruise
  8. Visit a WAGGGS World Center 
  9. Go on 25 day trips (1/25)
  10. Go to Savannah for the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts

To be nice:

  1. Write a thank you note to someone who won’t expect it
  2. Send a surprise package to a friend
  3. Reconnect with an old friend
  4. Make a new friend
  5. Send 101 postcards via (11/101)
  6. Keep flowers on my mother’s grave
  7. Compliment a stranger 101 times (30/101)
  8. Plant a tree
  9. Send flowers to someone
  10. Visit my Grandparents for no reason except to visit
  11. Donate $10 for each task I don’t complete
  12. “Be there” for a friend

To have some fun:

  1. Go to a concert
  2. Go snow skiing
  3. Go bike riding for a day
  4. Get “the four” of us together for a weekend
  5. Learn to roll in a kayak
  6. Go kayak camping
  7. Go camping with Emma
  8. Go “glamping”
  9. Go camping with friends
  10. Go to a hockey game
  11. Go to a book signing
  12. Go to the ballet
  13. Be in two places at once
  14. Bake and decorate a cake
  15. Wish on a shooting star

To live better:

  1. Have fresh flowers in the house every month 
  2. Cook a three course meal
  3. Eat only local food for a week
  4. Grow a vegetable garden
  5. Eat 10 things I’ve never tried before (0/10)
  6. Drive my motorcycle again
  7. Learn something interesting/I never knew about my dad
  8. Host a family dinner for a major holiday
  9. Rid my house of cardboard boxes
  10. Do something without worrying about the consequences
  11. Start a new family tradition
  12. Buy original art
  13. Have family photos taken
  14. Make pasta from scratch
  15. Crochet a blanket
  16. Private Goal  (because not everything belongs on the internet)
  17. Burn a letter to my mother in a Girl Scout campfire
  18. Give up something for Lent

To take fiscal responsibility:

  1. Start saving for retirement
  2. Get life insurance
  3. Borrow a book from the library instead of buying it (and return it on time)
  4. Pay off my car
  5. Don’t buy any “wants” for a month (0/30)
  6. Have 101 “buy nothing” days (24/101)

And lastly:

  1. Make a new 101 list

  1. I love good, old fashioned camping, but that sounds pretty cool too! I hope you write about it when you do it!
